Turning 35? The Lifetime Community Rating is about to kick in.

If you are turning 35 soon, now is the time to consider health insurance before a loading applies to your cover.

The Lifetime Community Rating (LCR) applies to people 35 and over, who take out health insurance for the first time.

If you take out health insurance before you turn 35, you can save hundreds each year, and potentially thousands over the lifetime cost of your health insurance.

The LCR loading is charged at a rate of 2% of the total cost of your health insurance premium for every year over 34, up to a maximum of 70%.

For example, if you take out health insurance when you turn 36, you will pay an extra 4% loading on top of your premium. At 45 years of age, you will pay an extra 12%.

If you had health insurance in Ireland in the past, your previous period of cover will be taken into account and help reduce your LCR loading. For example, if you are 45 years old and had health cover between 28 and 30, two years will be taken off your LCR loading.

If you recently moved to Ireland and take health insurance within nine months of becoming a resident, the LCR loading will not apply. If you take health insurance after nine months and are 35 or older, the LCR loading will apply to your premium.

At Hennelly Finance, we understand everyone’s situation is unique. We provide tailored, specialist advice about the LCR loadings and how they affect you. To find out more get in touch with our health insurance advisors today on 091 670 123.
